Women with Money Change the World

There has been this big phenomenon in the last couple years that seems to be shocking most news organizations, but not shocking most feminists paying attention to financial matters. Women are a huge and underestimated market.

Women treat money differently. Women spend it. Of course that’s a stereotype and maybe that’ll get condemnation, but women spend money on women. Taylor Swift and Beyonce made millions of dollars for themselves and every city where they had a show on their most recent tours – because everyone wanted to be a part of it. Everyone wanted to celebrate and support those powerful women.

Caitlin Clark just took her college basketball team to the finals. It was the most watched Championship game in years – far more than the men’s tournament. Because successful women support other successful women.

The Barbie move broke every move record there is. People went to see it multiple times over because it’s supportive and inspirational.

Women with money change the world, because women change the world with money. When we have access to our own finances and we vote with our dollars, we watch women do incredible things, we contribute to women doing incredible things and we help fund more women doing more incredible things.

There was a running joke during the recent billionaire space race involving Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Richard Branson, that they were spending their money to get off the planet while their ex-partners or spouses were spending their money to make the planet better. Jeff Bezos spent his post-divorce dollars building a rocket ship. His ex wife, MacKenzie Scott was spending billions of dollars after her divorce proceedings donating to numerous philanthropic organizations across a broad range of issues to improve the lives of those struggling to get ahead, including Black and Hispanic education programs, Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, gender equality programs, as well as numerous international social programs.

Melinda Gates is similar. She received billions of dollars in her divorce and, while I’m sure she has plenty reserved to support herself and her family in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed, she is spending that money contributing to social programs, gender equality programs, international health initiatives, and working to address systems of inequity across the globe.

Women support women. Women with money change the world. And women change the world with money.

We understand the having money gets us in the rooms of power and influence. And when we have the opportunity for power and influence, good things happen for those down the food chain. We understand the life is collaborative – that it takes a village to raise a child. We know that if any of us get ahead we have a collective responsibility to turn around and pick others up coming behind us.

This philosophy doesn’t usually translate for men. It is clear in our systems of finance and power, that that philosophy has not won the day.

But we’re starting to see the successes of our power and influence. We’re starting to see a more level playing field. We’re starting to see everyone take notice.

Women with money can change the world. Get more money to get more influence to do more good.
