Let’s be honest, we love the drama. We listen to all the true crime podcasts and audiobooks, we make celebrities out of housewives and Jersey Shorers who spend all their time gossiping and fighting among one another. Every other show on television is about emergency services or surgeons or crime investigations. We thrive on trauma. Why is that?
Somewhere along the line we got bored by peace. Our “basic” lives weren’t exciting enough. Honestly, I don’t really get it. I love those peaceful easy moments. They are few and far between even on good days. Peaceful and safe moments should be celebrated from the rooftops, not minimized. Peace isn’t boring, it’s rare if we really start to think about it.
I was sitting on my couch last night cozied up to my husband watching tv. The dog was snoring from his dogbed, the cat was curled up into himself and everything was quiet and cozy. And I took a moment of gratitude for how stinking lucky and privileged we are to get to have moments like those.
There is chaos everywhere, and thanks to the internet we get to see all of it all the time now. That is not normal. Normalize peace. Normalize gentle and slow. Normalize boring.
Boring is wonderful. Boring should be celebrated. Boring means that everything is right in your small little corner of the world. Boring is an absolute win.
