We all have good days and bad. Life has its ups and downs. Sometimes we are thriving – all the pieces fall into place and we get things done and feel good about ourselves and our contributions in the world.
And some days we’re just holding on for dear life trying to make it through whispering Scarlet O’Hara’s mantra to ourselves all day long. (For those not in the loop: Tomorrow is another day.)
It is completely okay to just have a survive day. Don’t do the grocery shopping, order out for a night. Don’t do laundry, everyone can handle one more day in the clothes they have. Don’t unload the dishwasher, they’ll still be there tomorrow. Don’t schedule a stressful meeting with your boss or volunteer for carpool or to head up the school fundraiser…or really anything.
Just get through the day. Just about everything will keep for another day. Take a day and recharge.
Thrive on the thrive days. Get the extra things done when you’re feeling the energy flow through you. Celebrate those days and recognize that you’re killing the game today! Try to get ahead for when you are back on a survive day. Set up some freezer meals to pull out and warm up. Do the work projects you’ve been putting off for ages because you don’t want to figure out how to do them. Do that extra workout you’ve been meaning to start but keep making excuses about.
Somedays you’re thriving and some days you’re merely surviving. Both are completely normal and okay. Thrive when you can. Survive when you need to. Accept both. Embrace both. Build room in your life for both.
